Editorial Policy

Pickleball Australia is an independent, privately operated directory. Our goal is straightforward: to help pickleball players across the country find a court quickly, with reliable details that save them a wasted trip. We are not the sport's governing body — that is Pickleball Australia (pickleballaus.org) — and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by them or any state or territory association.

This editorial policy explains how we gather, evaluate, and maintain the information published on this site. We publish it because transparency matters: when someone relies on our directory to find somewhere to play, they deserve to understand how that information was obtained and how current it is likely to be.

Our listings are built from multiple complementary sources, cross-referenced where possible to improve accuracy:

• 1. Google Places API. The majority of initial venue data — name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, photos, and user ratings — is pulled from Google's Places API. This gives us a high-confidence starting point for publicly listed businesses and facilities.
• 2. Independent web research. For venues not well-represented in Google's database (community halls, council parks, smaller clubs), we research venue websites, council websites, local Facebook groups, and other publicly available sources to build out the listing.
• 3. User and operator submissions. Players and venue operators can submit new venues or corrections through our contact form. These are reviewed before any changes are published — see "How to Submit a Correction" below.
• 4. Operator claims. Venue operators can claim their listing via our self-service claim flow at /claim/. Once verified, claimed operators can update their own hours, description, court count, pricing, and amenities directly, giving them a direct line to keeping their listing accurate.

We do not purchase court data from third-party data brokers. All information we publish either comes from public sources or has been provided by the venue itself.

Raw data from any automated source contains errors. A venue may have closed, relocated, or changed its offering since it was last indexed by Google. Our verification process aims to catch and correct these issues before they mislead players.

Before a new listing is published, we carry out a basic sanity check: does the address resolve to a real location on a map? Does the venue's own website (where available) confirm pickleball is offered? Are the opening hours plausible?

Beyond the initial check, each listing undergoes an enrichment review in which we consult additional public sources — venue websites, Google Maps satellite imagery, community forums, and social media — to confirm or correct key facts such as the number of courts, indoor vs. outdoor, whether lighting is available, and whether play is free or fee-based. Details we cannot confidently confirm are either omitted or flagged as unverified.

We do not physically visit every venue. For venues we have not been able to independently verify in detail, we note this in the listing and encourage players to contact the venue directly before making a trip.

Some listing descriptions, structured facts (court count, surface type, amenities), and FAQ content are produced with the assistance of AI language models. This helps us provide richer, more readable information for a large number of venues that would otherwise have only a bare address and a Google star rating.

AI-generated content is always grounded in factual inputs: the venue's own web copy, verified data fields, and publicly available reviews. We do not ask models to invent facts. Where a fact cannot be sourced, the model is instructed to omit it rather than guess.

All AI-assisted content is reviewed by a human editor before publication. Where content turns out to be inaccurate — whether due to an AI error or a change at the venue — we correct it promptly when notified. See "How to Submit a Correction" below.

We are transparent about this practice because we believe it is better for readers to understand how content is produced than to assume everything was written after a personal visit. AI-assisted enrichment does not substitute for operator-verified details; it supplements publicly available information to make listings more useful.

Venue information changes. Courts close for renovation. Clubs change their membership structure. Opening hours shift between seasons. We maintain data currency through several mechanisms:

• — Periodic automated crawls. We re-fetch Google Places data on a rolling basis to pick up changes to hours, ratings, and business status.
• — Operator claims. Verified operators can update their listing at any time. Changes made by verified operators are published without delay.
• — Community corrections. Any reader can flag an inaccuracy through our contact form. We review and action these within a few business days.

Despite these efforts, some listings may be out of date at any given time — particularly for venues that do not have a web presence, have not been claimed, and are not active on Google. We recommend contacting a venue directly before visiting if the listing has not been recently updated, or if you are relying on specific operational details such as session times or pricing.

If you find an error in a listing — a wrong address, outdated hours, a court that has closed, a venue that shouldn't be listed — please let us know. We take corrections seriously and aim to review all submissions within 1–3 business days.

To submit a correction, use our contact form. Please include the name of the venue and as much detail as possible about what needs to change. If you are the venue operator, mentioning that in your message will help us prioritise your request.

Alternatively, venue operators can claim their listing at /claim/ to gain direct update access without needing to go through our review queue.

We do not accept payment to add, change, or remove listings. Editorial decisions are made independently of any commercial relationships.

This site carries display advertising (including Google AdSense) and may in future offer optional paid featured placements. Advertising relationships have no influence over whether a venue is listed, how it is described, or how it ranks in our directory. Paid featured placements, if offered, will be clearly labelled as such.

We do not accept payment to write positive reviews or remove negative information from listings. Our editorial decisions are made solely on the basis of accuracy and usefulness to players.
